Julia Koch Tibbitts of Marquette Takes on the Establishment in favor of the Environment
I was fortunate enough to be awarded a research grant, the Grace Magnaghi Fellowship, to research in the archives of Northern Michigan University recently. I focused on Julia K. Tibbitts, a Marquette native who despite her corporate background and secure, even privileged position in society, decided to challenge the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company and its power companies when they wanted to expand their operations at Presque Isle in Marquette. Please read her story even though it is a bit longer than a "Michigan Moment" in celebration of Women's History.

Ecorse Rowing Club
The Ecorse Boat Club/Ecorse Rowing Club has a long and proud history of rowing teams winning international rowing championships, even though it started as a small town boat club with small town rowers. Read Rafting the Waters and Pulling An Oar for Ecorse to discover part of their story.
