Come Meander Michigan History with me...
Let's meander through some of Michigan history together - meander in the sense of focused exploration of the highways and byways of Michigan history, and not aimless wandering! Michigan has too much interesting history to support any aimless wandering!
I am Kathy Warnes, and all of my life I have believed that history is more about people than dates, presidents and wars. Things that I firmly believe about history include:
- History is relevant. It needs to be studied to give people a sense of where their lives fit into historical context, to give them a sense of belonging and connection to the human family, and to visualize what their own lives can mean to history.
- Many of us are as Michael Crichton puts it, “temporal provincials.” Some people think that our own time is the only important, relevant time, and this attitude limits our spiritual and intellectual growth. History can show us all that stripped of 21st century technological trappings and attitudes, human nature has been consistent throughout history.
When I decided to build history websites - I have one for American history, one for world history, one for women's history - I wanted to try to demonstrate that history can be interesting and fun as well as academic and intellectual. I will work consistently toward this goal in continuing to build this website.
I want to welcome you and encourage you to make return visits because I am constantly posting new material. I also welcome your comments at: firstname.lastname@example.org
